What You Think
Self-confidence is a powerful thing. But there is something even more powerful, what you think. A wise and powerful man who single handily transformed the transportation industry once said, “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.” This famous quote from Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Company, encapsulates the very core of why positive thinking works. Yet, many people do not fully understand just how powerful their thoughts are. The mind is a powerful thing! It controls how you perceive yourself and the world around you. In fact, your thoughts are responsible for everything that happens in your life.
Believing
What you think not only influences your behavior, but also your actions as well as reactions. Whether it was Henry Ford’s belief that one of the primary keys to getting what you want out of life is believing that you could, was the reason for his success, or it was something else. One thing was clear; he understood the power of his thoughts. He changed the world by thinking differently. And, so can you. With this in mind, we offer some insight on how your thoughts can help you achieve your goals and fulfill your aspirations in life. No matter what your age!
The Importance of Goals
An idea is just a dream until you write it down, then it becomes a goal. For anyone looking to turn a can’t into yes I can and their dreams into plans. It all starts with having a goal. But as the saying goes, “The tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals. The tragedy of life lies in having no real goals to reach” ~Benjamin E. Mays. This point circles right back to your thoughts. At the very core of who we are, what we do, and just how much we’re capable of in life, are our thoughts. It is such a simple concept, yet to many, very complex. Far too often, many of us forget the power hidden inside our minds.
Remember, everything that exists in the world today, was once a thought. The chair you sit on, a book you are reading, even the clothes on your back began with a thought. So, the question is, how can we use the power of our thoughts to achieve our goals? The only thing we can control in life, is our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. So, to achieve your goals, you first have to decide what they are and why they are important. And, once you have, move towards every one of them with confidence. Remember, you can do it if you believe you can.
How to Achieve Your Goals (In Retirement)
Your everyday thoughts can affect your life either positively or negatively. For example, if you think something is not possible our out of your reach, it is. In fact, if this is how you think it is out of your reach simply because your mind keeps you from ever trying. Meaning, you yourself determine your own success of failure. Without a clear vision of what we want to achieve, we will be unable to reach our full potential. Without a clear vision of what we want, we have little hope in unleashing our powerful resources. Resources have the power to help us create our ideal world (our minds). With this in mind, we offer some simple steps on how to achieve your goals.
- Believe: you can, the biggest difference between those who achieve their goals and those who do not, is one believes anything is possible
- Challenge: yourself and your perceived limits, shoot for the moon, and remember your only limitation is you
- Write Down Your Goals: there is tremendous power in taking the time to write your goals down on paper (because once you have, it becomes a plan)
- Visualize Them: already having achieved your goals
- And, Take Action: a dream written down with a date becomes a goal, a goal broken down into steps becomes a plan, and a plan backed by action make your dreams come true
“Believe you can and you’re half way there.”
