Aging with Attitude
Age with attitude, because, it is not the age, it is the attitude that defines us. Growing older is not about becoming someone new. It’s about recognizing that there is always more of the world, and of yourself, to explore. And, in retirement aging is a time to develop new interests and expand on those you may not have had time for before (life’s third act). It’s about taking your experience and building on it, and knowing that you never have to give up just because you are getting older.
How To Embrace Aging
The realization that you are getting older can come in waves. In fact, approaching the inevitable is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical reality. But, how do we embrace aging instead of fearing it? It takes perspective. So, instead of feeling that the best years are behind you, have a plan — a strategy based on knowing thyself, common sense and a zest for life. For many, it is about being bien dans sa peau (to feel good in one’s skin) in all stages of life. The most important thing you can do to embrace aging, is feeling a sense of meaning and purpose and engagement with life in the world.
Express Yourself
Do things that allow you to express yourself. These things provide a sense of self-fulfillment and release. The most important thing about aging is feeling a sense of meaning and purpose and engagement with life in the world. So, don’t be afraid to be your own person.
And remember, aging refines us, it does not define us (unless we let it). As American writer, humorist and entrepreneur Mark Twain once said,”Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
