Barbara Smith Library Annex Ribbon Cutting
Grand Opening
With local media in attendance, Chateau La Jolla hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, April 1, to celebrate the grand opening of the Barbara Smith Library Annex (named after a longtime resident).
In an area where mailboxes use to occupy the space, the community built shelves in anticipation of filling them with books. And, that’s exactly what they did! Through the collaboration between Barbara Smith’s family and staff, the library now houses thousands of books and DVDs.
The books and DVDs were discovered when bibliophile and longtime resident Barbara Smith moved to a higher level of care. Over the years, she had amassed quite a collection that includes everything from biography to fiction and table top books to gardening and architecture.
With librarians ready to help, residents can now enjoy a variety of books for pleasure, to broaden the mind, or even open it. Perhaps it’s a book they’ve been meaning to read for months (or years) or a DVD to take them somewhere. Whatever the reason may be, the book donation will provide lasting benefits for residents.
The refurbished space is a part of a larger ongoing renovation project.
